Ecija cops arrest 30 in 1-week anti-crime sweep

Seven suspected drug peddlers were arrested while more than P15.8 million worth of "shabu" and smuggled cigarettes were seized in three separate anti-crime operations in Cebu City and Zamboanga City.

CABANATUAN CITY—At least 30 wanted persons were arrested by police in Nueva Ecija in an anti-crime sweep completed in one week in the province.

Col. Marvin Joe Saro, Nueva Ecija police director, said most of the arrested persons were wanted for rape, acts of lasciviousness, theft, estafa, homicide and frustrated murder.

The anti-crime operations were carried out from Nov. 16 to 23 in the towns of Licab, Cabiao, San Leonardo, Talugtug, Talavera, Cuyapo, San Jose, Rizal, San Isidro, Santo Domingo, and the cities of Cabanatuan, Gapan and Science City of Muñoz.

Police stations in these towns and cities had taken custody of the arrested persons while waiting for a commitment order from the courts.
