Cayetano out as CamSur 1st district caretaker

Even the party-mate of expelled Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. believes that the proceedings leading to his expulsion were fair, adding that lawmakers are required to be present when work calls.

Days after his ouster as Speaker, Taguig Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano found himself being replaced once more—this time—as caretaker of the first district of Camarines Sur.

The House of Representatives designated Rizal Rep. Michael John Duavit as the new caretaker for Camarines Sur’s first district. The changes were made before dawn on Friday before the House suspended its 16-hour marathon special session for the day.

Duavit will be taking over the post left vacant by the passing of Camarines Sur Rep. Marissa Andaya, who succumbed to cancer last July.

The House also designated deputy speaker and Sorsogon Rep. Evelina Escudero as legislative caretaker of Sorsogon’s second district whose representative, Maria Bernardita Ramos, passed away on September due to the new coronavirus. —Julie M. Aurelio
