MANILA, Philippines — Starting Thursday, Oct. 1, the management of Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 said its passengers could expect faster travel and shorter waiting times as the rail line boosted the speed of its train sets from 30 kilometers per hour (kph) to 40 kph.

The Department of Transportation said the trains’ speeds would gradually increase from 40 kph in October to 50 kph by November and 60 kph by December.

The increased running speed is expected to shorten passengers’ waiting time to 6.5 to 7 minutes.
