CEBU CITY — The number of violators of quarantine rules here has declined in recent weeks.
According to city government data, 1,525 individuals were accosted for violating quarantine rules from Aug. 1 to 15.
But from Aug. 16 to 23, the number of apprehended violators fell to only 140.
The most violated rule was the requirement for anyone outside to carry a quarantine pass.
Data from Aug. 1 to 15 showed at least 884 people were caught outside without quarantine passes while 554 were caught violating the 10 p.m. curfew.
At least 87 violators were apprehended for not wearing masks. None were caught violating the social distancing rule.
While some areas in the country on general community quarantine have stopped requiring quarantine passes, Mayor Edgar Labella has kept the rule in a bid to control the movement of people.
From Aug. 16 to 23, at least 36 people were caught violating the curfew while 67 had no quarantine passes. At least 37 were apprehended for not wearing masks in public.
A city ordinance punishes quarantine violators with fines of P500 for the first offense, P1,000 for the second and P3,000 for the third offense.
The third offense also carries a penalty of 30 days in jail.
