LPA east of Mindanao not expected to intensify – Pagasa
MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Thursday.
The LPA was last spotted 420 kilometers east of Hinatuan town and is embedded in the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), according to the state weather bureau’s 4 a.m. weather forecast.
“Sa kasalukuyan, ang binabantayan po nating LPA ay mababa ang tsansa na magdevelop into a tropical depression,” Pagasa weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said.
(Currently, the LPA we are monitoring has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression.)
Pagasa’s latest weather bulletin added that Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the LPA and the ITCZ.
The ITCZ is where winds coming from the northern and southern hemisphere converge, bringing clouds that cause rains in affected areas.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have fair weather, but isolated rain showers may occur in the afternoon and evening due to localized thunderstorms.
“Same weather condition ‘yung naranasan natin kahapon na mga pag-ulan sa hapon o isolated rainshowers,” Bulquerin said of the weather in the Luzon region.
(We will have the same weather as in yesterday, with isolated rainshowers in the afternoon.)
The entire Visayas will also have fair weather, except for isolated rain showers that will most likely occur in the afternoon or evening.
