MANILA, Philippines — An administration lawmaker hopes lawmakers will act according to what the country needs and over and above their selfish interests when the House of Representatives convenes to tackle the newest push to amend the Constitution.

Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez expressed optimism on Tuesday that his colleagues in the Lower House will “rise above partisan politics.”

“I believe we have capacity in Congress on what are needed as constitutional changes to provide for our people,” the lawmaker said.
