MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday that 127 foreign nationals in the country have been infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a televised press briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said 74 of the foreigners were able to recover from the respiratory disease, 45 are currently admitted while 8 died.

The agency did not release further details about the coronavirus-infected foreign nationals such as their nationalities and status in the Philippines.

It can be recalled that the Philippines’ first three confirmed COVID-19 cases involve Chinese tourists from Wuhan, the origin of the pandemic which was reported late January.

Over five months later, there are now 46,333 COVID-19 cases nationwide, including 12,185 recoveries and 1,303 deaths.
