LEGAZPI CITY –– Sorsogon province recorded its first coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-related death on Monday after an 83-year-old woman, a resident of Gubat town, succumbed to the disease three days after experiencing symptoms.

The Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol said the woman had a history of travel in Quezon City.

The department did not specify her day of arrival but said that she first experienced symptoms on Friday.

The patient is the oldest known COVID-19 case in the region as of this writing.

The DOH said in a statement that the woman’s swab result for COVID-19 was validated only on Tuesday, the day after she died.

This is the sixth coronavirus-related death in the region and the first in more than a month.

Before this new death, the last casualty, a 45-year-old man from Labo town in Camarines Norte, died on May 15.
