MANILA, Philippines— Placing the Senate under a 14-day lockdown is now being studied after it recorded new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among its employees.
Senator Panfilo Lacson confirmed on Tuesday that some Senate employees had contracted the disease.
“I think two or four cases kaya nag disinfect yesterday,” Lacson said in a text message though he said he has yet to confirm the exact number of the infected personnel.
Hence, the Senate is now studying whether or not to impose a 14-day lockdown.
“Pinag aaralan daw,” President Vicente ‘Tito” Sotto III said in a separate text message Monday night when asked if there was indeed a request to place the chamber under a two-week lockdown.
“It’s up to the Secretariat. They would know if necessary,” Sotto added.
Three senators— Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, Aquilino “Koko”Pimentel III, and Sonny Angara — had been infected with COVID-19 but they all have recovered.
