The Archdiocese of Manila urged the youth to volunteer once church services resume as the elderly are indefinitely prohibited from doing voluntary work to protect them from the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In his pastoral instruction, Bishop Broderick Pabillo said that since senior citizens were discouraged from going out and doing voluntary service, the youth needed to take their place, especially that the elderly make up most of their volunteers.

He noted that the elderly could still do their part by recruiting volunteers in their stead.

“This is just temporary. The time will surely come when you may again be able to come and serve, which we hope and pray will be soon. Our parishes will surely miss you and your service,” Pabillo said. —Jovic Yee
