Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Thursday reminded employers to strictly follow the proper pay rules on June 12, the 122nd Philippine Independence Day, saying that workers who report for work should be paid twice their regular daily wage.
The double pay scheme is prescribed in Labor Advisory No. 22-2020 issued by Bello pursuant to President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of June 12, 2020, as a regular holiday.
But amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has let firms defer the payment for such a bonus. —TINA G. SANTOS
