MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard on Thursday canceled cargo vessel and fishing boat operations across the Philippines due to Typhoon Ambo (international name Vongfong).
“Maritime activities will resume when the weather condition becomes normal, as may be declared by PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration),” the PCG said in an advisory.
In a separate gale warning issued by the state weather bureau, fishing boats and other small vessels were warned not to venture out to sea. Larger vessels should be cautious against big waves.
Typhoon Ambo was last spotted 140 kilometers east southeast of Catarman, Northern Samar. It packed maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 185 kph.
It was moving westward at 15 kph.
