4.5 quake hits Southern Leyte

MANILA, Philippines–A 4.5 magnitude earthquake shook Southern Leyte at dawn Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded.

The quake, which struck at 5:43 a.m., centered six kilometers northeast of Saint Bernard town at a shallow depth of eight kilometers.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
