MANILA, Philippines — The Twitter account of the Pasig City Public Information Office (PIO) was hacked on Friday morning, but was restored immediately after.

“Fyi (For your information). Our official PIO Twitter account was hacked at 10:15 a.m. It is now secure,” Mayor Vico Sotto said in a tweet.

In a text message to INQUIRER.net, Sotto said the hacker posted a photo showing “malicious content.” The post has been taken down after the recovery of the account.

When asked to confirm, Sotto said the photos were pornographic, according to his staff who informed him of the hacking. He added investigation is ongoing on the hacking incident.

Like other local government units, Pasig City is using its social media accounts to spread information to its residents about the coronavirus disease and the local government’s response to the crisis triggered by the respiratory illness.
