Around a million Beep cards expiring within 2020 can still be extended by another year, according to the operator of the stored value cards used in major transit lines in Manila like the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2 and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3.

This is in line with the thrust of AF Payments Inc., operator of the tap-and-go payment system, to maximize card usage and minimize environmental waste.

As of February, some 27,000 Beep cards have been extended under the program. Valid cards should have a minimum balance of P10. They can be extended through special machines available at selected LRT and MRT stations. —Krixia Subingsubing
