6 caught in drug busts

Seven suspected drug peddlers were arrested while more than P15.8 million worth of "shabu" and smuggled cigarettes were seized in three separate anti-crime operations in Cebu City and Zamboanga City.

Six suspects were arrested on Wednesday night after the police seized almost P400,000 worth of “shabu” (crystal meth) in buy-bust operations in Caloocan and Malabon.

Ricky Maghanoy, 33 and Ruben Mariano, 42, were caught by Northern Police District (NPD) operatives in Caloocan City with 55 grams of shabu worth P374,000.

Both were transferred to the NPD’s drug enforcement unit and could be charged with the sale and possession of illegal drugs, in violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In Malabon City, Ma. Victoria Matawaran, 37; Restituto Tangkeko, 45; Margarita Cortez, 44 and Mary Grace Francisco, 39, were forced to surrender after authorities got a tip about a pot session in Barangay Baritan.

Seized from the suspects were drug paraphernalia and seven sachets of suspected shabu worth P14,552. —Meg Adonis
