President Duterte has tasked Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to lead a body planning a “Filipino-centric” celebration of the 500th anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the world.

The President issued Executive Order No. 103 reconstituting and strengthening the National Quincentennial Committee originally created in 2018.

The country will mark the 500th anniversary of its role in the first circumnavigation of the world led by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. —Julie M. Aurelio
