MANILA, Philippines — Two commissioners of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) are set to retire in February.

Commissioners Luie Guia and Al Parreño will retire next month after completing their seven-year terms. But Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez assured that their retirement won’t have much impact on the poll body’s operations.

“There are supposed to be seven commissioners. The quorum to do business is four. Seven minus two gives you five. So even then, we will still have a quorum,” Jimenez said in an interview.

With the forthcoming retirement of Guia and Parreño, the remaining members of the Comelec en banc are Chair Sheriff Abas, Commissioners Rowena Guanzon, Marlon Casquejo, Antonio Kho Jr., and Socorro Inting. —TINA G. SANTOS
