MANILA, Philippiens — President Rodrigo Duterte believes that China will not take steps to cut off the country’s power supply by shutting down the power grid.
He said it would not make sense for China to do that since both nations were engaged in business.
“It’s a business. So why would China cut it? I will ask them. China, why will you cut it? You don’t want business?” the President said.
He said China was only helping out the Philippines by engaging in business, since the United States was not always available for all of the country’s needs.
“I’ll ask them, ‘Will there be a time that you will cut it off? Tell me.’ China will say, ‘Why would we do that? That’s money.’ I will say, ‘What would be the reason for you to cut it off?’ China will reply, ‘We won’t cut it off,’” Duterte said.
The President said a “quarrel” between the two nations might erupt if China attempts to remotely shut down the country’s power transmission network.
“Look China, we’re friends. We’re doing business. You want money, we want money. It produces money for both of us. Now, do you intend to cut it? And for what reason? You answer me,” he said in an interview on CNN Philippines on Friday night.
