LEGAZPI CITY – A police officer was gunned down Thursday night by a lone assassin in Batuan, Masbate.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Oscar Alegada, 43, a native of Batuan and assigned at the town’s police station, was gunned down along a road in Barangay (village) Canvanez at around 7:10 p.m., Maj. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson said.
Witnesses said Alegada was conversing with a police non-uniformed personnel, when he was attacked.
The victim sustained several gunshot wounds to the head and expired en route to hospital.
Police set up checkpoints and launched pursuit operations against the gunman. /gsg
