MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police officer in charge, Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, has relieved the police Regional Office 10 director, Brig. Gen. Rafael Santiago Jr., enforcing a six-month suspension over the latter’s alleged failure to turn over logistics, including firearms, when he left a previous post in 2012.
Gamboa said the suspension order resurfaced recently following a series of appeals and replies, and the need to secure President Rodrigo Duterte’s approval for Santiago’s trial. Santiago’s replacement, he said, would be announced on Thursday. —Jeannette I. Andrade
