MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo backed the proposal of the Commission on Population and Development (Popcom) to declare a national emergency over the rising number of teenage pregnancies in the country.

Popcom earlier reported that there are about 1.2 million children having children yearly, with 30,000 young mothers having already experienced repeated pregnancies.

The commission said that adolescent pregnancy leads to P33 billion in economic losses. —Jhesset O. Enano
