Marines chief to step down 5 months ahead of retirement

Marine Corps commandant Maj. Gen. Alvin Parreño has opted for early retirement and is set to formally relinquish his post on Monday.

At a Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines forum on Thursday in Camp Aguinaldo, Armed Forces chief of staff Lt. Gen. Noel Clement confirmed Parreño’s decision.

Parreño is set to turn over his post on Monday to naval inspector general Maj. Gen. Nathaniel Casem at the Marine Corps headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.—JEANNETTE I. ANDRADE
