DISCRIMINATORY? A ban on provincial buses on Edsa has been described as anti-commuter in a petition pending before the Supreme Court. In a resolution made public Friday, January 3, 2019, the Supreme Court dismissed the three petitions that challenged the legality of the MMDA policy that would ban provincial buses along Edsa on a technicality issue but ordered MMDA to justify its issuance of Regulation No. 19-002. MANILA, Philippines — The number-coding scheme is lifted on Monday, Sept. 30, for public utility vehicles (PUV), the Metropolitan Manila Development Manila (MMDA) announced Sunday.

The MMDA suspended the scheme to prevent a shortage of PUVs due to a nationwide transport strike.

The strike will be staged to protest the looming implementation of the PUV modernization program, which is expected to roll out in 2020.

Meanwhile, several local government units have canceled classes.
