According to the Department of Health, a total of 480 leptospirosis cases were reported nationwide from Jan. 1 to May 25.

The figure was 54 percent lower than the 1,048 cases recorded during the same period in 2018.

There were 60 deaths recorded nationwide due to leptospirosis from January to May this year, 18 of these in Metro Manila. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
