5 held for illegal gold digging in Mindoro resort town

Police anti-narcotics agents in Rodriguez, Rizal arrested three suspected drug traffickers and seized shabu (crystal meth) worth P238,000 in a sting operation early Saturday, Feb. 15.

CITY OF CALAPAN—Five men were arrested for illegal mining on Thursday (Aug. 15) in the resort town of Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro, police said.

Capt. Arman Rubio, acting Puerto Galera police chief, identified the arrested men as Wilfredo Baltazar, 45; Alfredo Sanchez, 46; Martin Adem, 52; Argie Reyes, 20; and Michael Nobleza, 19.

They had been digging for gold at the village of Tabinay, Rubio said. Police seized a generator, wires, flashlights, blower, pails, bar, hammer and other tools being used for mining.
