Magnitude 4.8 quake sways Davao Occidental

Several towns in Leyte province were rocked by a shallow magnitude 3.7 earthquake on Friday afternoon, a bulletin from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

DAVAO CITY – A 4.8-magnitude quake jolted Davao Occidental province at 10:04 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In its bulletin, Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the quake 145 kilometers (km) southeast of Jose Abad Santos town of Davao Occidental province.

The tremor, which was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 68 km, was felt at Intensity 1 in Tupi, South Cotabato, Alabel and Kiamba, Sarangani and General Santos City.
