According to the Department of Health, Metro Manila accounted for 38 percent or 1,987 of the 5,232 leptospirosis cases reported nationwide in 2018.

The region posted the highest number of cases during the period, followed by Western Visayas with 13 percent or 661 cases, and Ilocos region with 11 percent or 584 cases. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
