Suspected gang member arrested for robbery in Navotas

Police anti-narcotics agents in Rodriguez, Rizal arrested three suspected drug traffickers and seized shabu (crystal meth) worth P238,000 in a sting operation early Saturday, Feb. 15.

MANILA, Philippines — A suspected member of the “Sputnik Gang” was arrested after he broke into the house of a woman in Navotas City and took one cellphone and two wristwatches on Friday morning.

Navotas police identified the suspect as Edison Ortega, 28.

Investigation showed that Marivic Faller, 48, and her nephew, Joseph Carlini, 24 were sleeping in their house located at Bangus Street, Kaunlaran, Navotas City when they heard a noise outside.

Faller went to their living room to check the noise and was surprised to see Ortega.

Ortega then used a 15-inch kitchen knife to threaten the victim and take the personal items.

Carlini, however, saw the commotion and asked police for help. Ortega was shortly arrested.

Recovered from him were the cellphone worth P10,000 and two wristwatches worth P10,000.

Ortega was brought to the police station for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges. /muf
