ILOILO CITY, Philippines —Fraternity ties prevailed during a chance meeting here between presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo and Associate Justice Antonio Carpio who recently figured in a word war after Panelo called Carpio “unpatriotic” over his statement on the country’s controversial loan agreement with China.

“We’re frat brods (at Sigma Rho), barkada,” Panelo told the Inquirer at the sidelines of the 17th National Convention of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines at the Iloilo Convention Center.

Said Carpio of Panelo in a separate interview: “We are friends. We belong to the same fraternity. He agreed that what I mentioned are patrimonial assets.”
