Lacson to Duterte: ‘Continue doing good things, do away with bad things’

LACSON GUESTS AT KAPIHAN: Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, chair of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, discusses the difficulty of passing the proposed death penalty bill in the Senate during the Kapihan sa Senado on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Lacson, an author of the measure, said that based on discussions with fellow senators, the bill “would have a difficult time getting the numbers it needs to pass in the Senate.” He said that alternatively, the Upper Chamber could work on other important bills, such as the proposed National ID System Act. Lacson to Duterte: Continue doing good, get rid of bad things

MANILA, Philippines— On President Rodrigo Duterte’s birthday, Senator Panfilo Lacson wished the Chief Executive would “continue doing the good things and do away with the bad things.”

Duterte turned 74 years old Thursday, March 28.

“Siyempre better health, kasi we cannot afford na magkaroon ng destabilization on account of the death of a President,” Lacson said at the Kapihan sa Senado.

“And of course siyempre buhay din ‘yan. So sana maging healthy kung anong dinaramdam, magamot buong ano, from head to foot,” he also said.

Aside from better health, Lacson said he hopes the President would “continue doing the good things and do away with the bad things.”

But in terms of leading the country, the senator believed that Duterte deserved a notch higher than the rate of 5 or 6.

“I think he’s just being very modest. I’ll even give him at least 1 notch higher,” Lacson said. “If he gives himself 5-6, I’ll give him at least 7-8.”

Because of political will, he said, Duterte did so many things that other presidents failed to do.

“I will not enumerate anymore. Pero nakinabang ang gobyerno in terms of tens of billions of pesos in additional revenues na dapat mag-linger sa court mapaguusapan nang napakahabang panahon na pwedeng walang mangyayari o kung may mangyari man after 20 years,” he said.

“Siya (Duterte), in a snap of a finger or after a threat, nakuha ang gusto,” Lacson noted.

Political will, he stressed, is important to get things done. /kga
