MANILA, Philippines —The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will push through with the closure of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, which connects Makati and Mandaluyong City, after its closure was deferred in September 2018.

According to an advisory released by the Metropolitan Manila development Authority (MMDA) on Friday, the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge will be closed on Jan. 12, Saturday at 8 a.m.

The closure is due to the demolition and reconstruction of the bridge which was initially set last September 2018, MMDA noted.

The MMDA did not say when the bridge will be reopened to traffic.

The DPWH timeline said the demolition and reconstruction of the bridge will be completed in 2021. The project aims to widen the bridge to four lanes from its present two lanes.

The Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge connects Estrella Street in Makati City and Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City.  /muf
