#WalangPasok: Palace declares Aug. 20 a non-working day in Lucena

A son-and-father team from the Alcala political family has filed their respective certificates of candidacy (COC) for the positions of mayor and vice mayor of this city on Friday.

LUCENA CITY – Malacañang issued Wednesday Proclamation No. 554 declaring Monday, August 20, a special non-working day in Lucena City in Quezon province to mark its Charter Day anniversary.

The proclamation, signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, said “it is but fitting and proper that people of Lucena City be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies”.

Lucena Mayor Rhoderick Alcala posted a copy of the proclamation on his Facebook on Wednesday night.

Lucena became a chartered city on June 17, 1961 by virtue of Republic Act No. 3271 sponsored by the late Quezon Rep. Manuel Enverga.

But the local government celebrates the occasion every 20th of August each year to commemorate its formal inauguration as a city on August 20, 1962.   /kga
