1 dead, 1 hurt in Quezon shooting incidents

A 31-year-old passenger died after the car he was riding crashed into a concrete barrier on the roadside in Tiaong town in Quezon province before midnight on Saturday (Dec. 31).

LUCENA CITY – A tricycle driver was killed while another man was injured in two shooting incidents in Tiaong, Quezon on Sunday night.

Quezon police director Sr. Supt. Osmundo de Guzman reported that tricycle driver Benifredo Calses, 56, was shot dead inside his house in Barangay Lusacan at around 9 p.m.

Police said the unidentified gunman barged into the house of Calses and shot him thrice.

Calses died on the way to the hospital.

About two hours later, another victim, Pedro Balmes, 42, was also shot inside his house in Barangay Tamisian also by an unidentified gunman.

Police said the gunman shot Balmes five times but the victim survived. He is now being treated in a hospital.   /kga
