A “robust turnout” was reported on the first day of voter registration in Metro Manila for the 2019 midterm elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Monday.
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez noted “long queues” in the poll body’s field offices in Metro Manila even before registration officially opened at 8:00 a.m.

“We are confident that today’s turnout is indicative of the Filipino people’s enthusiasm to participate in the electoral process, and that it will be an upward trend from here on out,” Jimenez said in a statement.
Likewise, Jimenez reminded voters to register with the Comelec before the last day of registration, September 29.
Comelec field offices across the country would be open from Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for the registration, the spokesman said.
